Whether you are packing orders, working in a warehouse, caring for others, or helping out in a busy work environment, stress at work is something most people face at some point. But left unmanaged, it can impact your mental and physical health, performance and even your life outside of work.
The good news? There are simple, practical ways to manage stress and anxiety while on the job.
1. Recognise the Signs Early
Stress can show up in different ways, such as feeling overwhelmed, having headaches, trouble sleeping, low energy or feeling anxious.
The key is to notice the signs early so you can act before it builds up. If you constantly feel tense or dread going to work, your body’s is telling you it needs support.
2. Take Short Breaks
Even a quick 5-minute breather can help reset your mind. Step outside for fresh air, a quick walk or listen to some music that lifts your mood. Instead of scrolling through social media during your breaks, try to sit down, hydrate and recharge.
We know how valuable short pauses are. That’s why we’ve partnered with rugby league legend Ali Lauitiiti to bring Kofe Cart, a mobile coffee van, to work sites. It’s a chance to grab a free hot drink, take a breather and connect with others. Sometimes a simple chat and a cuppa are all you need to reset your day.
3. Move Your Body
Physical movement helps reduce stress hormones and boosts feel-good ones like endorphins.
- If you’re on your feet all day, try doing some gentle stretches before or after your shift.
- If you’re seated most of the time, take short standing or walking breaks when possible.
4. Talk It Out
You don’t have to deal with stress alone. Sometimes just talking to a mate, colleague or your consultant can make a huge difference.
If something at work is bothering you, let your Lowie consultant know. Our consultants are here to support you however we can.
5. Stay Organised
Stress can creep in when things feel chaotic or unclear, especially in temp roles where you’re learning new systems or at new sites regularly. Try these tips:
- Plan your day when possible
- Ask questions if you’re unsure about a task
- Use checklists or notes to stay on top of responsibilities
6. Look After Your Health
The basics matter more than you think:
- Get enough sleep
- Eat regular meals
- Stay hydrated
- Cut back on too much caffeine or sugar
7. Know When to Get Help
